I mean, really, I’m almost 60! I always thought adults had their lives together and knew what they were doing at all times. Life is showing me that I was wrong.
I retired 9 months ago and I have no freaking idea what I’m doing. There. I admitted it. I sleep late, I put together breakfast and eat on the porch. I spend the rest of the day out there, watching movies or shows on my iPad, reading, or working on my online shops. People stop by and chat for a while. Some just say hi in passing. It’s pleasant enough but pretty boring.
I’ve read that the reason life seems to speed up is because we stop doing new things, therefore the days blend together. I know I need to get up and pursue new activities, go off on new adventures, and I have every opportunity to do that. I just don’t.
A little giggle escapes me when I think about work. I smile when I remember that my friends are still there, slogging through every day with all the nonsense and disrespect that comes with my old career. I’d rather be completely bored than be back there so it’s not that I miss work. I miss novelty. I miss energy of people around me. I miss laughing at all the ridiculousness teenagers bring to life.
Let this be a declaration: I will make an effort to get up and out. To go new places and try new things. I may not figure out the secret to life but I can enjoy the ability to try.
